About Pine Grove Public School

Pine Grove Public School is named for the pine trees lining the northern school boundary along our parking lot. Until the 1970’s, the northend of St. Catharines was full of tender fruit orchards.

Pine Grove was built in 1974, but not in time for classes to commence in September. The students began their school year at neighbouring schools Orchard Park, Gracefield and Prince Philip until construction was completed. On January 21, 1975 Pine Grove Public School officially opened it doors and welcomed families and neighbours.

In 1975 the land along the front of Lake Street was sold to the former Lincoln County Separate School Board. Michael J. Brennan, our co-terminous partner next door. Pine Grove Public School and Michael J. Brennan Catholic School were the first schools in Ontario to operate as a shared facility until the recent closure of Michael J. Brennan in June 2014.

Today we have taken over the entire building. Our school has an enrolment of 365 students from Junior Kindergarten through Grade Eight and a total of twenty nine staff members. We currently have three sections of full day JK/SK and twelve classes total of grades one to eight. All students currently walk to Pine Grove except for a few kindergarten students who ride the bus to school.

We also offer YMCA before and after school daycare programs to for our students.

We are a very friendly and family oriented building where the needs of all our students are accommodated. Our staff works together to make sure that our building fosters a safe environment for all school members and ensure that our school is a respectful place for both our students and staff to learn and grow.

Through the efforts of students, staff, parents and administration, a growing spirit of co-operation, tolerance, understanding and harmony continues to flourish at Pine Grove Public School.
